Auld Reekie and Athens of the North are just two of the descriptors of this beautiful capital city. No doubt after you visit it, you’ll have your own superlative.

A living museum, but fun. It is the story of two cities, contrasting, very different, the Old and the New Town, the dark alleyways and the Enlightenment. Both are UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Edinburgh Castle dominates the city, standing in guard for hundreds of years on top of volcanic basalt rock. The monarch’s official residence is the Palace of Holyroodhouse, an elegant 17th century building. Linking both of these is the atmospheric Royal Mile. Both Palace and Castle are open to the public for visits. From Arthur Seat, site of the old Edinburgh volcano, active 350 million years ago you have wonderful views of the city.

The New Town designed in the 18th century Georgian period, is an elegant planned district of the city.

The famous Princes Street offers great views of the Old Town, through its gardens, and is the main shopping area.

In 2004 Edinburgh was named as the first City of Literature by UNESCO, because of its literary heritage. Poets and writers such as Robert Louis Stevenson, Sir Walter Scott, Arthur Conan Doyle, Robert Burns, J. K. Rowling are just a few associated to the city. The writer Ian Rankin said “Edinburgh is not a city, it’s a way of living”.

You can discover what life was like on board the Royal Yacht Britannia, the Queen’s floating residence for more than 40 years, now berthed in the port of Leith.

With friendly eateries, pubs and shops, Festivals galore, museums, galleries and gardens, Edinburgh has something for everyone. Let us take you on a voyage of discovery.
