Glasgow has undergone a transformation, and this reinvention makes it a very interesting destination. The luxurious 19^th-century City Chambers with marble interiors, the Merchant City with its museums and stylish bars, George Square, Glasgow’s civic centre, and its pedestrian shopping streets and shopping arcades combine the past with the present.

The River Clyde, bloodline of the city, and its peaceful walkways link the past with the futuristic architecture of the science, television and conference centres.

In the west of the city, the 19^th-century Neo-Gothic buildings of the University of Glasgow and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum are a must on any itinerary.

Long gone are the days when local people laughed at you should you suggest that Glasgow could attract tourists. Credit is due to the city and the progressive inhabitants that Glasgow is now a well visited and enjoyed place, with excellent gastronomy and shopping.

You can combine a few hours in the city with a visit to the Queen of the Lochs, Loch Lomond. It is so fortunate to have such a beautiful lake so close to the city; now not just for the enjoyment of local Glaswegians, but for every visitor from all over the world, as Scotland first National Park. You can sail on the Loch, stroll along the shore, visit Balloch Castle or the enchanting conservation village of Luss. This makes a lovely day contrasting architecture and nature, city and countryside.
